Maipu Wine Bike Experience: A Day Among Vineyards, Wineries and Wine

Some days in Mendoza begin with a bicycle and end with a glass of Malbec. In between, there are vineyards, wineries, local gastronomy, quiet roads and a pace that lets you enjoy every moment without rushing.

That is Maipu Wine Bike Experience: a full-day self-guided experience along the Maipu Wine Route, designed to explore by bicycle, discover some of the area’s most interesting wineries and enjoy the landscape and gastronomy at your own pace.

The experience begins and ends at Maipu Bikes, where we provide you with a basic MTB bike, 26-inch wheels, helmet, maps and all the information you need to organize your route.

It All Begins at Maipu Bikes

Before you set off, we make sure your bike is ready and explain how the route works. We also give you recommendations about the wineries, places to eat and the different stops you will find throughout the day.

During the ride, you have access to mechanical assistance and, if you need help, you can count on us throughout the entire route. You are not on your own: Maipu Bikes is available to assist you with any issue that may arise during the experience.

This is not a guided tour and you do not have to follow a group. Instead, you can explore the Maipu Wine Route independently, enjoying each stop at your own pace.

In addition, the complete route covers approximately 12 to 16 kilometers and takes place mainly on flat terrain.

Your route: Maipu Bikes → Trapiche → Viña El Cerno → Mevi → Tempus Alba → Maipu Bikes.

First Stop: Trapiche

Trapiche is one of Mendoza’s great historic wineries. Founded in 1883, it combines tradition, architecture, innovation and a wide range of wine production. It is also an internationally recognized winery and was named New World Winery of the Year 2019 by Wine Enthusiast.

Trapiche produces wines including Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Bonarda, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Torrontés.

With Maipu Wine Bike Experience, your visit includes access to the exterior of the winery, the vineyard and the Gift Shop, as well as a non-guided tasting of one glass of Lateral or a similar wine.

Next Stop: Viña El Cerno

The next stop has a completely different character. Viña El Cerno is a small, family-run artisanal winery where wine production is closely connected to respect for nature and personalized attention.

Viña El Cerno produces wines including Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay and Torrontés, as well as sparkling wine.

As part of this experience, your visit to Viña El Cerno includes a guided visit and a tasting of 3 varietal wines.

Mevi, Vineyards, Andes Views and a Well-Deserved Break

After Viña El Cerno comes one of the gastronomic highlights of the route: Mevi, a family-run boutique winery where limited-production wines, vineyards and views of the Andes Mountains come together with local gastronomy.

Mevi produces wines including Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Bonarda, Chardonnay, Torrontés and Rosé.

The experience includes a 4-course lunch paired with wines. The menu is designed to complement the experience and also includes alternatives for those who require gluten-free or vegan options.

Tempus Alba: Another Stop Among the Vineyards

Tempus Alba is one of the recognized wineries along the Maipu Wine Route, where architecture, vineyards and wine come together as part of the same experience.

Its wines include Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé de Malbec.

At this stop, you can enjoy a self-guided visit. You also receive a 15% discount at the Food Truck, so you can decide whether you would like to take a gastronomic break before continuing.

The Journey Is Part of the Experience Too

Between one winery and the next, cycling allows you to enjoy something that is often overlooked: the landscape.

Vineyards, quiet roads, wineries, mountains and small scenes of everyday life in Maipu are all part of the route. It is not just about getting from one place to another, but also about enjoying the journey along the way.

After visiting Tempus Alba, you begin the ride back to Maipu Bikes. It is time to slow down a little, enjoy the final kilometers and return to the place where the day began.

You return the bicycle at Maipu Bikes, and there is still one last moment to share.

And Just When You Think the Day Is Over… Happy Hour Arrives

When you return to Maipu Bikes, we close the experience with our Malbec Happy Hour.

The Malbec is free. It is our moment to share the end of the day with other travelers, talk about the route and enjoy everything we experienced along the Maipu Wine Route.
